On Aug. 13, The Makeup Examiner received a mysterious envelope from CoverGirl. Marked “Top Secret,” and with a “District One” embossment, her heart pounded as she knew it could only contain the most dreaded information. Well, okay, not really. Yes, The Makeup Examiner received CoverGirl’s Aug. 13 announcement of The Hunger Games Catching Fire Collection complete with a Lottery of Panem ticket that began with “Happy Hunger Games!,” but there was no dread … just pure excitement for a sneak peek at this year’s most anticipated makeup collection.
CoverGirl had first made the announcement in May of their partnership with Lionsgate to collaborate on “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” both with makeup for the film and a collection inspired by the film. Since then, we’ve all been anxiously awaiting any word from CoverGirl’s Capitol City. With Tuesday’s release of two of 12 looks, (one for each district and inspired by that district’s trade specialty), the excitement is palpable. The Makeup Examiner received an exclusive sneak peek of two of the districts, Fishing and Luxury, and is sharing them with TME readers.
CoverGirl’s Capitol makeup artist, Dotti, used CoverGirl’s Flamed Out collection and the yet to be released, Hunger Games collection, to create the two looks. For the Fishing District (District 4), the model has been transformed into a stunning sea creature and for the Luxury District (District 1) Dotti creates a look of a model that’s been covered in gold from head-to-toe with a fabulously rich crimson lip. Perhaps an interesting look for fall?
In the upcoming weeks, CoverGirl will release more avant-garde images for each district. The brand will also be launching the Capitol Beauty Studio on Aug. 26, so keep your eyes out, and CoverGirl The Hunger Games Catching Fire Collection is expected to launch on Oct. 1.
