NARS Guy Bourdin Holiday 2013 Color Collection drops tomorrow, Oct. 15, with the 2013 Gifting Collection following on Nov. 1, and the quality of the collection is everything that one would expect from NARS cosmetics. So, what makes this collection controversial?
The Collection is billed as “Uninhibited glamour. Cinematic intrigue. Evocative innuendo.” Fabulous! One of the things that we beautynistas love about our products is the creativity behind any line and François Nars has one of the most creative minds in the beauty industry. François is an artist, and every artistic mind is inspired by someone or something that prompts them to move. For the NARS cosmetics founder, that someone was Guy Bourdin.
As a child, François Nars discovered Guy Bourdin’s work in the pages of French Vogue. As the story goes, it was Bourdin’s work that inspired young François to become a makeup artist. Not much controversy in a lovely insight about François Nars … until you understand whom Guy Bourdin was and what his work portrayed. It wasn’t sexy and it showed women as abused and objectified.
You may ask, “Why would you write about the collection?” and The Makeup Examiner will tell you that it is her job to bring readers beauty news and allow readers to decide for themselves what is and is not right for them. Peruse the pictures to see the entire NARS Guy Bourdin Holiday 2013 collection and for those that want the Color Collection, it will be available Oct. 15 at NARS with the 2013 Gifting Collection following on Nov. 1 at both NARS and select retail locations.
