The Experts Guide To Flattering Colors For You

Skin tone fluctuates throughout the year. Therefore, the hues that looked amazing on you throughout the warmer months could easily make you look tired and washed out in the winter. And, we all have experienced the challenges of choosing flattering “change-over” shades for our hair color, nail polish and lipsticks. Fortunately, Kari Hill, Tom Bachik and Billy B. -- Experts from L’Oréal Paris -- have shared some tips on how to choose the most flattering shades … along with product recommendations to make the seasonal color transition a little easier!

Kari Hill, L’Oréal Paris Consulting Hair Colorist – Expert Tip: Instead of using the face, I look at the forearm to determine a more precise and unaffected matching of skin tone. When choosing hair color, in addition to skin tone, you should also consider your natural eye color, present choice of makeup, desired maintenance/upkeep and the time of year.

Cool haircolor tones look best on skin with cool undertones, which can range from blue or pink on fair skin to even an olive undertone for darker. On fair skin, L’Oréal Paris Mousse Absolue in Lightest Icy Blonde or Feria Absolute Platinum typically looks great. For darker skin, consider L’Oréal Paris Mousse Absolue Icy Dark Brown or Superior Preference Luminere Black Sapphire.

Warm haircolor tones look best on skin with golden or yellow undertones, regardless of dark or light skin. Some at-home hair color options that look good on warm skin tones include, L’Oréal Paris Mousse Absolue Lightest Golden Blonde, L’Oréal Paris Excellence Crème Medium Golden Blonde or L’Oréal Paris Feria Dark Gold Blonde.

Neutral toned haircolor is the closest tone that could complement a wide variety of skin tones. I liken a neutral color to the tone of a child’s hair. Here are some haircolor options for accommodating varied skin tones: L’Oréal Paris Mousse Absolute Pure Dark Blonde, Feria Very Light Natural Blonde, or Superior Preference Natural Blonde.

Tom Bachik, L’Oréal Paris Global Nail Artist – Expert Tip: When choosing nail shades, keep it simple and think in warm or cool tones. The easiest way is to look on the underside of your arms. If your veins are mostly purple in tone, then you’re more cool skin toned. If your veins are mostly greenish in tone, then you’re more warm skin toned. Another tip – think about the colors you like to wear and the same palette will likely work for nail shades.

For cool skin tones look at rich berries (L’Oréal ParisColour Riche Nail in Violet Vixen), deep purples (L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail in Paparazzi Pleaser) and Bright Blues (L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail in Not a Cloud in Sight).

For warm skin tones, I like burnt reds (L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail in Red Tote), warm dusty rose tones (L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail in Spice Things Up) and rich corals (L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail in Tangerine Crush).

Billy B., L’Oréal Paris Consulting Makeup Artist – Expert Tip: When it comes to choosing a good lip color, I not only look at skin tone, but also pay attention to eye color, hair color and what my clients are wearing.

Generally, I used the below guidelines for skin tone and lipsticks:
  • Olive – nudes (L’Oréal Paris Extraordinaire by Colour Riche in Nude Ballet) pinks, oranges (L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Lipcolour in Volcanic) and reds (L’Oréal Paris Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stain in Endless Red)

  • Fair – bold shades in pink and red (L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Balm Pop in Bold Blush and Fiery Red,)

  • Darker skin tones – Bold, rich colors like burgundy, browns (L’Oréal Paris Infallible Never Fail Lipcolour Compact) berry colors (L’Oréal Paris Infallible Le Rouge in Enduring Berry) and deep reds (L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Glossy Balm in Petite Plum).

DIY At Home Facials Tips from Skin Care Expert Ildi Pekar

Ildi Pekar of Ildi Pekar Skin Care NYC
A native of Budapest, Ildi Pekar was raised in an area that’s world-renowned for its skincare treatments and one can say that Ildi was born to become a world-renowned esthetician and skin care expert. After spending over a decade practicing her craft in NYC, in 2007 Ildi took a leap and opened Ildi Pekar Skin Care located on Madison Avenue. And today, Ildi is sharing her best-kept secrets for amazing at-home skincare!

“DIY facials at home are so easy and fun. One of my favorites is the honey and avocado DIY facial for clean hydrated skin. I recommend doing this with raw/organic ingredients only. These little facials can give your skin the proper boost it requires to have great skin in between visit to your skin care expert,” shares Ildi.

Ildi’s At-Home Tips For Everyday Beauty Bothers:

Pillow Case Face - “Make sure you put on your moisturizer prior bed time. You need to hydrate your skin so it doesn’t dry out and cause wrinkles naturally. I recommend purchasing silk or satin pillowcases to prevent and avoid creases from forming during your night’s sleep. I also recommend sleeping on your back, which is difficult at first but this also helps avoid any markings on your skin from occurring. If you sleep on your face, it causes poor circulation, which leads up to more wrinkles. Give your skin the extra circulation it needs to avoid any creases. When you get up in the morning, wash your skin with tepid water and give face a massage for stimulation”.

DIY How to Reduce Puffy Eyes -
  1. Morning and night. Boil 1 cup of water, add 1 organic chamomile tea bag. Soak for 5 to 10 minutes. Take a cotton pad, wipe your eyes with the chamomile tea and take the tea bag and leave on each eye 5 minutes.
  2. Take 2 teaspoons, put it in the freezer; use the back of the spoon and hold it under your eyes for 5 minutes. This should decrease the puffiness in the eyes.
  3. Egg White Mask: Break two eggs; take only the egg white and use a tiny brush to then apply around your eye area. This you can do in the morning or before bed and helps reduce the puffiness. Ildi also recommends doing a 3-minute eye massage before and when you wake up as well. This gives your eyes the stimulation it loses during your sleep.
  4. Cold milk: Cold milk is soothing. Soak 2 cotton pads in the cold milk. Leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes. Using this method, you’re draining unnecessary liquid and hydrating the eyes. The fatter in the milk, the better it is.
  5. Cucumber and Mint Leaves are great for stimulation. Leave on like a mask for 15 to 20 minutes. Blend cucumber and Mint and soak a cotton ball in them. Wipe around your eyes and rinse after 20 minutes. Quick Tip: Cucumbers are hydrating and anti-inflammatory, take 2 cold slice of cucumber and put them on your eyes and lay down.
  6. Drink plenty of water during the day and prior to sleeping. The puffiness could be a sign of dehydration.

Note: A special thank you to Ildi Pekar for sharing her expert skin care tips! Ildi has just introduced the Ildi Pekar Booster Facial, which is the only facial that features one of the top active anti-aging ingredients in the market today; Hyaluronic Acid. Summertime Hair Fixes from Celebrity Hairstylist Bill Murphy

Summer is in full swing and we’re all looking forward to some fun in the sun. But this season also brings an array of hair problems. Straight or Curly, it can be challenging to beat the summer heat and bad hair days. Fortunately, The Makeup Examiner scored some rockin’ tips from Celebrity Hairstylist Bill Murphy. Bill is also the creator of Recitals Hair Care and offers easy tips for looking amazing while enjoying the best of beach weather!

“Hair dries faster during the summer than any other season. The combination of wind and humidity additionally causes frizz and renders hair brittle. The trick is to keep hair moisturized,” shares Bill.

Recitals’ latest product Melody Moisture Miracle Crème ($31), which The Makeup Examiner has had the privilege of testing out, is a multi-purpose product that acts as a leave-in conditioner, styling product, shaving cream and even an overall body moisturizer. Yep, an awesome multi-purpose product for summer! Formulated for all hair types from organic ingredients and botanicals, this wonder product goes deep into the hair shaft, and skin as well , for the ultimate in hydration. TME cautions that a little goes a long way, as she ruefully found out the first time that she used MelodyMoisture Miracle Crème as a leave-in.

Sunburned Scalp: Oh, like that’s never happened to you? Prolonged exposure to the sun can often result in sunburned scalp. An easy remedy for tender or dry/flaky scalps or even limp hair due to product build up is use cucumbers. Slice a cucumber in quarters and rub gently on your scalp. This will effectively sooth the scalp, moisturize dry scalp and eliminate product build up.

Color Fade: If you decided to spend time poolside, remember that this may leave hair color looking unnaturally brassy because of chlorine. Hair color fades naturally with every washing but even faster with the harsh detergents in conventional shampoos. Opt for a sulfate and paraben free product like Recitals Symphony Volumizing Shampoo to better maintain your hair color.

About Recitals Hair Care – Recitals Hair Care is a line of natural restorative, maintenance and styling products formulated with only the highest grade organic and botanical ingredients without silicones or parabens. Recitals Haircare offers unique blends that seamlessly work in flawless harmony and easily absorbed into the hair shaft to effectively deliver elasticity, firmness, as well as a silky soft, glossy, youthful feel and appearance. Recitals Hair Care products are available online at Recitals.

Fall 2014 Hair Color Trends with Celebrity Colorist Marco Pelusi

It may be difficult to think of fall while we’re all enjoying the gorgeous summer weather, most especially this past week when the weather seems as if it was order off of the “perfect summer weather” menu. But, soon enough we will be surrendering our breezy dresses and now’s the time to look ahead and checkout the forecast for the perfect hues for our lovely tresses. Who better to check in with then world-renowned celebrity colorist, Marco Pelusi of Marco Pelusi Hair Studio in West Hollywood? Which is precisely what I did!

In a TME exclusive, Marco offers readers the hottest trends and amazing hair colors for Fall 2014. Aside from being the “Master of Color,” Marco truly believes in making women feel beautiful and this is why The Makeup Examiner went straight to Marco for his expert opinion. Read on to find out what hues work for blondes, brunettes and redheads, as well as expert color care advice for the cooler months.

Yvonne: I’d read somewhere that Platinum Blonde and Metallics are the hot trends for Fall 2014. What do you think of this?

Marco: I definitely think that platinum blonde is making a comeback these days. The cycle fashion tells us that a trend [begins] as avant-garde, moves into fashionable, goes mainstream and then ends as outdated. And, goes back around to avant-garde. This has happened with the platinum blonde. It was almost been seen as outdated for a while, but I think it's been creeping in. Meryl Streep sort of hinted at it a few years back in “The Devil Wears Prada” -- when she wore her solid light hair -- and at that time, platinum blonde was still outdated but moving toward avant-garde. As with all trends, it takes a few years [to become mainstream], and now we are seeing more all-over blondes. So, yes to the all-over platinum blonde! Metallics I'm not so sure about.

For several seasons ombre has ruled as THE hair color trend and I really thought that the trend would finally go away. But with mega-stars like Jared Leto, quite literally rockin’ this look, and Jessica Biel sporting soft ombre locks, is it still a hot trend? What are you seeing as on-trend for Fall 2014?

Marco: We are still feeling the bleeding in of the "sombre" … or, that is, the softer, summer/fall ombre. I had a strong feeling this trend would stick with us in its various forms, as it takes on a new feel, as time moves forward. This trend moves more into the ends being slightly sun kissed or tipped with a gradually lighter color -- this differs greatly from the previous strong line of demarcation from the old ombre -- where the hair literally went from black to blonde. This is a much softer progression, and in my opinion, is quite beautiful, and definitely feels on-trend throughout the fall.

Who’s wearing the sombre look right now?

Marco: My dear friend and client Carol Alt has a version of this look, more or less, right now. Her ends gradually, beautifully lighten up as you see her darker hair progress throughout. Additionally, I have to admit, I'm a huge Bravo fan. I'm acquainted with many people involved with the shows, and right now, Carole Radziwill of “The Real Housewives of New York” is definitely wearing a sombre.  Her hair beautifully starts out darker and bleeds into light, with gradual transition.

With many projects together, I know that you love your redheads and you are hands-down THE color expert. What about blondes and brunettes? What are the on-trend hues that will transition from summer into the cooler months?

Marco: Yes I happen to love reds -- also red coloring is perhaps the most challenging for stylists/colorists to achieve -- that is, to capture a really, really good red -- and therefore my voice is quite specific in this area. However, I do create my own blonding/highlighting techniques. I’ve just returned from my annual presentations at the International Beauty Shows in Vegas, where I demonstrated this technique to hundreds of professional hairstylists. (Readers, Marco truly is a master at color and offers instructional DVDs on his world-renowned technique) The blondes who are on-trend will gradually add more lowlights -- deeper, richer, darker tones throughout their blonde hair -- to reflect the change in seasons. The brunettes can consider adding deeper and warmer tones -- again to reflect the change not only in the season, but the fall colors of the leaves, and everything around us. Brunettes can add a touch of deep gold’s and hints of reds/auburns; and moving into winter we can begin moving into cooler and darker browns.

You’ve taught us that color care is so important. Are there different steps to take during the cooler months to maintain our color?

Marco: Indoor heat is always a culprit for drying hair as the fall is upon us. It's time for deep conditioning treatments. Nourish the hair as much as possible. Find a deep conditioning formula that works for you. Shampoo your hair, rinse, squeeze the moisture from your hair, towel blot, and apply the deep conditioner. Allow it to sit for 30 minutes, preferably in a warmer or steamier area. Then rinse. Additionally, when the weather turns colder, and our indoor heat goes up, applying a leave-in conditioner can become your friend!

Okay my lovelies, there you have it from the color God himself. Sombre will continue to be a very on-trend look for Fall/Winter 2014-15. Going platinum blonde is very in vogue and brunettes should embrace the natural colors of fall. Color care is vital for keeping those locks looking lovely and Marco has created a line of cruelty-free hair care products especially for colored treated hair, which you can check out by visiting Marco Pelusi Studios. The product that I can’t do without is Marco Anti-Frizz Leave-In Conditioner with Collagen Color Guard, as it’s not only the perfect product to feign off the environmental conditions that cause our hair to go bonkers in the cooler months, but also the best leave-in for year-round! You can keep up-to-date with Marco on Twitter and Facebook!

6 Steps to Avoid Breakouts From Skincare Expert Crystal Wellman

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, acne is the most common skin disorder in the United States, affecting millions nationwide. Acne can be triggered from various causes including hormones, stress, and unhealthy eating. However, acne is not totally out of your control. This June, during Acne Awareness Month, make the effort to avoid acne altogether. Crystal Wellman of the Crystal Clear Acne Clinic offers her top tips to reduce or eliminate acne.

“So many people are suffering from all sorts of acne right now, from mild to severe, but you don’t have to,” affirms Crystal Wellman, a Master Aesthetician and owner of the Crystal Clear Acne Clinic. “There are the obvious steps you can take to reduce your acne, like reducing your stress or eating healthier. However, there are certain actions that people can take which you may not have thought of before.”

If you want to get rid of your acne, here are Crystal’s 6 steps:

  1. Avoid Fabric Softeners. Fabric Softeners in the washing machine and sheets in the dryer create a waxy residue that clogs your pores. Make sure to wash your pillowcase and hand towels weekly.
  2. Avoid Swimming Pools. While swimming pools are refreshing during the summer months, the combination of hot and humid weather, physical exercise and chlorine leads to major acne breakouts.
  3. Avoid Sports Drinks. Sports drinks and sports bars contain ingredients that lead to breakouts. Try to avoid foods that contain iodized salt, seafood, seaweed, fast foods, and dairy products.
  4. Avoid Comedogenic Products. There are hair, make-up and sunscreen products on the market designed to avoid clogging pores and causing breakouts. Look for “non-comedogenic” labels when shopping.
  5. Avoid Sleeping with Makeup. Even make-up designed not to clog pores can lead to breakouts if you sleep with it on. Let your skin breath by washing your face at least twice a day and applying moisturizer.
  6. Ditch the Dairy. Milk products have a tendency to create inflammation in the pore. Clogged pores and inflammation will leave you with major breakouts. Try almond, rice or coconut milk instead of cow or goats milk dairy products.
“The best way to get rid of your acne is to see a professional,” affirms Wellman. “A skin specialist will be able to identify the root of your problem and advise the best course of treatment to permanently eliminate acne.”

About Crystal Clear Acne Clinic - The Crystal Clear Acne Clinic is a new treatment clinic, located at 1210 Princess Anne Street in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The clinic is owned by Crystal Wellman, a Master Aesthetician and serial entrepreneur. Those who have skin conditions related to acne, rosacea, and aging, among others, will find unique treatment options available at the clinic. Summer Skin Care Tips from Dove Consulting Dermatologist Dr. Ellen Marmur

Dr. Ellen Marmur

The Makeup Examiner loves the summer … who doesn't right? Although the warmth and fun-in-the-sun activities are a blast, and much-needed reprieve from this past winter, you may not have your skin summer-ready. Furthermore, once you do have you skin "de-polar vortexed" do you know the best ways to keep your skin looking great throughout the warmer months? TME was fortunate to catch up with Dr. Ellen Marmur to find out how to get, and how to keep, our skin looking sexy all summer long!

The Makeup Examiner: What's the best way to maintain skin moisture during the warmer months?

Dr. Ellen Marmur: The first question I ask my patients who suffer from dry skin is what are they using to cleanse themselves with. For most, this is not something they even really consider as they use whatever is left over in the shower or what's on sale at the drugstore. So the first step to set yourself up for success is to trade in the soaps and body washes that use harsher cleansers for a body wash with milder ingredients. Dove is the #1 dermatologist recommended brand of bar and body wash as they combine mild cleansers and moisturizers to replenish skin's nutrients while cleansing. In fact, dermatologists recommend Dove 7x more often than the next leading moisturizing body wash. After the shower, the next step is to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Use a thick moisturizer while the skin is still damp and continue to apply throughout the day. The third step, and of course one that is even more important during the warmer months, is to apply sunscreen every time skin is exposed to the sun.

Shaving and summer go hand-in-hand. What can we do to retain skin moisture before, during, and after we shave?

Dr. Ellen: If you shave during your morning shower, apply moisturizer the night before you shave. Pay attention to the cleanser or shave cream you are shaving with and seek out a product that won't strip essential oils from your skin. For example, Dove Crème Mousse Body Wash has a rich, whipped formula that makes it an ideal shave cream alternative and is clinically proven to leave skin moisturized after shaving. Formulated with NutriumMoisture, Dove Crème Mousse Body Wash replenishes your skin with nutrients lost during shaving for a soft, smooth feel. After you shave, immediately apply additional moisturizer while skin is still damp and then apply sunscreen before exposing skin to sun.

SPF is almost a given, but what is the lowest you recommend?

Dr. Ellen: Broad spectrum UVA UVB SPF 30 is my lowest! Unless we are applying a shot glass, or a golf ball, amount of sunscreen lotion, we are only getting a fraction of the number of the SPF on the label. So don't skimp on sunscreen. You will still get sun even with SPF 50!

How often should SPF be reapplied?

Dr Ellen: Reapply sunscreen at least every two hours. There is no reason to forget or avoid this because sunscreen formulations are more elegant and cosmetic than ever.

What are your three "must-dos" for summer skincare?

Dr. Ellen:
  1. Moisturize your skin three times a day! This will prep your skin for its natural glow.
  2. Avoid harsh soaps that strip your essential oils and use mild cleansers.
  3. And WEAR your sunscreen! There are no excuses.
Dr. Ellen Marmur is a leading dermatologist and Founder of Marmur Medical in New York City. Insider Secrets to Great-Looking Skin for the Acne Prone

Skin conditions such as acne, acne rosacea, or merely the impact of aging affect most adults at some point in their life. In fact, the American Academy of Dermatology reports that acne is the most common skin disorder in the country, affecting some 40-50 million Americans. What’s more is that around 85 percent of all people in the country will at some point in their life have acne. Add to that the additional 16 million people who are affected by the skin condition rosacea and it’s clear to see that skin problems are common. It also leads millions to search for products or treatments that will help them have great skin.

“Having great looking skin is a mystery to most people. They are just not sure what to do in order to make things better,” explains Crystal Wellman. “Some of the things they do may even work against them to make it work, even if they are using products that claim to help their skin.”

The good news is that there are things that can be done in order to improve and have great-looking skin, including these six secrets:

  1. Avoid irritating. It’s important to avoid the urge to pop, pick or otherwise irritate acne or other skin conditions. This will just make it worse. While you may want to squeeze that pimple, you are better off leaving it be.
  2. Be gentle. Always use gentle products that will not be abrasive or dry the skin out. Be gentle when rubbing the face to clean it as well, being sure to avoid any vigorous scrubbing or harshness. Choose a facial cleanser that is gentle and not overly drying -- hydrated skin heals faster.
  3. Stop the clog. The make-up industry is huge, with just the sales of organic and natural beauty products expected to top $9 billion next year. This make-up may look great, but a lot of it can clog the pores, leading to acne and other skin problems. Those who wear make-up should be diligent about gently cleaning it off their face at the end of the day. Always check all makeup and skincare products for pore clogging ingredients; as long as you are using them you will never be acne free.
  4. Think protection. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer, affecting over two million people each year. Sun and even being around cigarette smoke can damage the skin and lead to premature aging of it. Make an effort to protect the skin by wearing sunscreen, a hat, or sitting in the shade.
  5. Drink water. Many people question whether or not staying hydrated helps you have great-looking skin. It is important to understand that the skin is an organ and like others it needs water to be at its best. It’s always a good idea to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
  6. Get help. Not everyone is able to successfully take on their skin conditions and win all on their own. Get the help you need from a professional who can help identify and treat the problem, as well as provide information on how to avoid it in the future.
“Once you learn more about what to do and what not to do it all becomes easier to have great-looking skin,” added Wellman. “At the clinic we not only treat the condition, but we teach people what to do so they can prevent and address problems in the future.”

Crystal Clear Acne Clinic is a new full-service skin care clinic located at located in Fredericksburg, Va. The clinic offers skin care treatment for a wide variety of conditions, including acne, rosacea, and aging. 2014 Sports Illustrated Model Gigi Hadid’s Summer Makeup

Celebrity makeup artist, Misha Shahzada recently created Gigi Hadid’s summer makeup for The Daily SummerMagazine. Famed photographer Gilles Bensimon was on hand to photograph the cover and inside story. And Misha shares the “how-to” for Gigi’s stunning look!

To create Gigi’s “Golden Goddess” look, Misha took inspiration from icons such as Raquel Welch and Sofia Loren -- as they're the perfect role models for bronze beauty.

The first step in creating the look was to aim for a natural sun-kissed look while not having Gigi appear overly tanned. To accomplish this, Misha used Perfect Body Perfection Gel in matte tan all over her body to create a soft and natural looking glow. According to Misha, “The product blends nicely and is easily buildable without looking too heavy or unnatural”. In order to achieve a perfect finish, Misha recommends exfoliating the body first as this will allow for overall even application.

Next, she used a bronzing brush and simply dusted Maybelline’s Mineral Power Bronzerall over the face. Pro Tip: Always start with less and build if you need to. Misha also suggests when using nudes for color, to experiment with shades such as taupe, browns, pinks, etc., as nudes do not always have to consist of just beige tones.

To finish the “Golden Goddess” look, she added a pop of color with a red lip while most of the face was left natural. Misha opted for a matte red lip with Maybelline’s "Keep up the Flame" paired with Color Sensational lip liner in "Red" which added a modern twist to Gigi’s look without appearing overly "glam".

Misha created Gigi's look for BeautyFriend - About BeautyFriend: BeautyFriend is your trusted app source for on-location beauty services from the best stylists and make-up artists in the industry to you. You choose which stylists you want, when and where you want them! You can make your stylist selection based on their location, availability, proximity, profile, portfolio, and specialties. What’s Sizzling for Summer Style? Summer 2014 Hair Trends

Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial start of SUMMER! Like most, this writer is so over the harsh "polar vortex" of this past winter and so ready for some serious fun in the sun. Now that the warmer weather is here, it's time to truly transition our lovely locks into summer style. But, where do we begin with fresh and inspiring ideas?

Taking a look at the runways for Spring/Summer 2014 we saw a myriad of interesting looks. Of course translating those runway looks can be a bit of a challenge so this writer deconstructed a few of her favorites from the runways, as well as turning to her friend, Celebrity Stylist Sarah Potempa. Sarah was kind enough to share what her clients have been asking for. So, what hairstyles are truly sizzling for summer? Read on to find out!

Waves (and not just at the beach) are super hot this summer. Both the Bohemian Beach Wave and Polished Wave styles are so on trend for Summer 2014 and easier to achieve then you may think. Bohemian Beach Waves -- Seen at Versace and Marc by Marc Jacobs -- This laid back look is easy to do. For the lazy ladies, creating this look is as easy braiding slightly damp hair (two large braids - one on each side) before you hop into bed. For those with medium and shorter lengths, you can still achieve these soft, face-framing waves. Apply a minimal amount of leave-in conditioner, blow-dry with a diffuser, spritz with a texturizer and go!

Sarah's Pick: Polished Waves - "This is a look that celebrities are always requesting," shared Sarah. And a simple, chic wave is definitely in style this summer. To get the look, prep your hair with a good deep conditioner. Accessorize - SS14 is the season to get creative with your hair accessories. From floral garlands to pretty headbands and scarves, make a bad hair day into a good one by adding something special.

Beach Waves – Seen at Versace and Marc by Marc Jacobs - Definitely a big trend for summer, this laid back look is easy to do and the more randomly placed the waves are, the better. For the lazy ladies, creating this look is as easy braiding slightly damp hair (two large braids - one on each side) before you hop into bed. For those with medium and shorter lengths, you can still achieve these soft, face-framing waves. Apply a minimal amount of leave-in conditioner like Marco Anti-Frizz Leave-In Conditioner ($35) and invest in Remington’s T|Studio Silk Ceramic Multistyler ($34.99) that comes with a Curl Guide sleeve for the perfect beach waves. Keep locks looking lovely with a spritz of Shu Uemura Texture Wave ($28).

Low Ponytail – Seen at Altuzarra, Lanvin, Jason Wu - Summer is always amazing, but sometimes the humidity brings bad hair days. An easy solution is the simple, chic Low Ponytail. It’s as easy as securing the ponytail at the nape of your neck and the look can be versatile. Opt for a super sleek look that can be achieved with a high gloss finishing spray like Sexy Hair 450 Headset ($18) or a casual, whimsical look that is achieved by gently moving the ponytail from right to left before securing at the nape of your neck.
