Rockins For Eyeko Launch Event

Last night, Nov. 25 saw Eyeko, the award-winning go-to brand for eyes, unveil their partnership with Rockins, a cult collection of 1920's inspired bias cut scarves, and classic handkerchiefs with a modern yet quintessentially British edge.

Rockins for Eyeko was born of a meeting of minds, when Tim Rockins, a London based artist, illustrator, musician & DJ, created a monochrome design, paying homage Eyeko’s global trademarks, the ‘Alexa’ eye and the Eyeko plectrum.

Guests were treated to a live performance from the Rockins for Eyeko dance troupe. Top makeup artist James O’Reiley created a dramatic eye look whilst James Brown coiffed their locks courtesy of Premier Hair & Make Up.

Founders of Eyeko are makeup veterans and partners Max and Nina Leykind. Nina added, “We are delighted with the result of this exclusive collection – the three scarves capture the Eyeko ethos perfectly; creativity, individuality, and fun! The partnership is a perfect match of brand personalities, so watch this space for more to come in 2015 …”

Jess Morris, Founder of Rockins said, “We are thrilled to be collaborating with Eyeko on a limited edition scarf, and celebrating tonight at The Scotch of St James. The Rock’n’roll heritage of this venue makes it the perfect choice, as it’s where the Jimi Hendrix Experience first performed in London, not to mention The Stones, Wilson Picket and Georgie Fame. It very much fits with the Rockins and Eyeko sensibility and lifestyle.

The handcrafted, artisanal silk scarves, available in three styles SKINNY (£90 / $142), MITRED (£120 / $190), and FRINGED MITRED (£150 / $235) -- will add the perfect touch to any outfit. Rockins for Eyeko will be launching December 2014!

Boston Proper Rose Gold Room Spray Review

As The Makeup Examiner has previously written, scent sets the ambiance for any experience. What would life be without the scent of pumpkin spice in the fall or florals on a warm summer night? Scents entice and invite us to join in or relax and sooth a tired mind. So, as much as I adore perfumes, I too adore luxurious scent everywhere I wander.

Just as all perfumes are not made alike, we find this will room sprays. Admittedly I more apt to light candles than to reach for a room spray, but there’s something quote lovely about Boston Proper Rose Gold Room Spray ($49-6.0oz), which just launched May 1. To start Rose Gold Room Spray is highly scented, with only a spritz needed to create a scent-filled room and the bottle, with a rose blush liquid trimmed with a frosted Boston Proper label, is chic enough to be displayed.

At first spritz, citrus and cinnamon are immediately evident and gently open into rose and jasmine with a final scent of soft musk and amber. Despite a top note of cinnamon and base notes of musk and amber, that I usually place in the cooler weather scent category, Boston Proper Rose Gold Room Spray is a room scent for all seasons that would be just as inviting in the winter as it would be during summer.

  • Top Notes: Citrus, Cinnamon
  • Mid Notes: Nutmeg, Rose, Jasmine
  • Base Notes: Musk, Amber

Yes, The Makeup Examiner is hooked!Boston Proper Rose Gold Room Spray is available online at Boston Proper and at all Boston Proper locations. Check out more about Boston Proper on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Find the perfect swimsuit online with tips from fashion expert, Melissa Liebling-Goldberg

Melissa Liebling-Goldberg, Fashion & Beauty Director of POPSUGAR

Today, March 20th, kicks off the first day of spring and with that comes the preparation for swimsuit season. For busy women, turning to the Internet is a logical avenue to procure the perfect bikini. Is that gasps of horror we hear? How many times have you purchased swimwear only to receive it and find that the suit is nothing like what you’d expected? Of course, there’s also the hassle of returning the suit and starting the process all over.

Well, buying a swimsuit online doesn't have to be a dreadful experience. The Makeup Examiner checked in with Melissa Liebling-Goldberg, who is the Fashion and Beauty Director at POPSUGARoverseeing content on Fashion, Beauty and ShopStyle, to pick her brain for foolproof ways to find that perfect swimsuit online. Melissa states that finding swimwear online is as easy as sticking to a few basic rules.

1. Keep your “in-store” frame of mind

We usually choose realistic styles, sizes, cuts, colors, etc. that look best on us when we are about to confront a mirror. Apply that same reasoning as you add items to your online cart. Choose styles and sizes that work with your body type and that you’ve been wearing consistently. And if you’re anticipating a smaller or bigger size this season, make sure to take your measurements and compare them with the brand’s sizing chart.

2. Narrow your search

Discovery is endless on the web! As an online shopper, you are exposed to millions of options, which can be confusing and overwhelming once approaching checkout. Choose 3-5 cuts and styles you’ve worn in the past and that flatter your frame.

Styling Tip: To play up your chest, try using a halter style; Victoria’s Secret has some great push-ups too with fun prints and colors. If you have a larger bust, try picking a suit that allows for cup sizing on top. ASOS has a lot of great options. Choosing a string bottom means you can adjust it to fit you, no matter what your shape is.

3. Follow the KLT Rule -- Know, Love, Trust

If you are nervous about buying online, try sticking to brands that you already know, love and trust. Chances are, that will leave you feeling great and worry-free about your online purchase. For those who do not have a go-to swimsuit brand, we recommend checking out these trendy and popular brands -- L-Space, Mara Hoffman, and Nanette Lapore. They all made a huge splash at MBFWSwim 2014.

There you have the rules to stick with to increase the opportunity of easily finding the perfect swimwear online! Note: A special thank you to Melissa Liebling-Goldberg for taking the time to share her expertise.

Pantone Predicts 2014 Color of the Year

Pantone announced, yesterday December 5, the 2014 Color of The Year! The global color authority pronounced Pantone 18-3224 Radiant Orchid, a captivating, magical, enigmatic purple, as the color of the year for 2014.

“While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”

Radiant Orchid for Fashion
Radiant Orchid’s rosy undertones radiate on the skin, producing a healthy glow when worn by both men and women. A dazzling attention-getter, Radiant Orchid permeated the runways during the spring 2014 fashion shows and is already making its way onto the red carpet. Fashion designers featured in the PANTONE Fashion Color Report Spring 2014, including Emerson by Jackie Fraser-Swan, Juicy Couture and Yoana Baraschi, are incorporating Radiant Orchid into their spring collections and variations of this hue will carry into men’s and women’s clothing and accessories throughout next year.

Radiant Orchid for Beauty
A modern and surprisingly versatile shade, Radiant Orchid enlivens the skin, making all who wear it feel more healthy and energetic. Blending both cool and warm undertones, purple is an appealing hue for distinctive combinations and flattering to many hair, eye and skin tones. This multifaceted hue is seductive when combined with red and pairs well with its sister shades of lavender, purple and pink, which provides an assortment of lipstick and blush options. Radiant Orchid’s exuberance also acts as a brilliant finishing touch to nails.

Radiant Orchid for Interiors
Spruce up interior spaces by incorporating this eye-catching hue in paint, accent pieces and accessories. As adaptable as it is beautiful, Radiant Orchid complements olive and deeper hunter greens, and offers a gorgeous combination when paired with turquoise, teal and even light yellows. Likewise, the vibrant color is sure to liven up neutrals including gray, beige and taupe. Uplifting and bold without being overpowering, Radiant Orchid reenergizes almost any color palette and provides a unifying element for diverse spaces.

Cross-Referencing to Other PANTONE Libraries PANTONE 18-3224 Radiant Orchid can also be cross-referenced to all other PANTONE Libraries including PANTONE PLUS for graphic design. For more than a decade, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design.

Estée Lauder partners with Opening Ceremony

In August of this year, Estée Lauder announced a unique partnership with fashion house Opening Ceremony. “On what?” you ask. Would you believe a brand new wardrobe for Estée Lauder Beauty Advisors? Estée Lauder partnered with Opening Ceremony founders, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, to create a collection that is envy worthy and will leave wishing you were one of the 15,000 beauty advisors that Estée Lauder has on staff.

The collection includes:

  • Short Sleeved Pleated Dress - Flirty and flattering, this dress features Estée Lauder’s new jacquard print, inspired by an Estée Lauder pattern. Fitted at the torso and waist, with an invisible zipper at the back, the dress flares out with a full sweeping hem and incorporates Estée Lauder’s new detachable, enameled belt, modeled after a vintage compact.
  • Jacquard Peplum Blouse - The jacquard blouse has a beautiful, tailored body and waistline to create curves and conceal well, um, curves. Fullness from the waist down adds a dressy flair, while princess seams provide shape and contouring.
  • Slim Pant - This ultra-sleek pant flatters with a fitted waist and straight leg. It’s accompanied by Estée Lauder’s signature enameled belt and features front zippers with front slash pockets.
Inspired by Estée Launder vintage compacts and iconic “Rope Weave” pattern, Lim and Leon developed an amazing collection of chic slacks and separates. The above list is just a fraction of the entire collection and if you’re wondering where you can purchase a piece, or two, the answer is nowhere. Not a single item is for sale. The only place where you can acquire the collection is if you become an Estée Lauder Beauty Advisor. Beautynistas can expect to see the new wardrobes on beauty advisors Fall 2013.
