Miu Miu PFW Spring/Summer 2015 Backstage With Redken Get The Look

Achieving a messy, rebellious look for Miu Miu’sSpring/Summer 2015 show in Paris, Redken Creative Consultant Guido used several texturizing and shine-inducing Redken products to achieve a wet style. “The hair is a classic shape, almost like a Catherine Deneuve style, but with this very modern texture. We opened up the face by pulling the hair off of it and adding a texturized sheen to the hair. I used fashion waves 07 sea salt spray as the main product to pull the hair back and then clipped the hair in so that the ears stick out, creating this rebellious feeling. I finished by heavily spraying the hair in forceful 23 super strength finishing spray to make it look a little bit wet,” Guido.

Redken Products Used: Diamond Oil High Shine Shampoo, Diamond Oil High Shine Conditioner, fashion waves 07 sea salt spray, forceful 23 super strength finishing spray, shine flash 02 glistening mist

How To Create The Look:

  1. Wash hair with Diamond Oil High Shine Shampoo and Conditioner.
  2. Spray fashion waves 07 sea salt spray all-over hair lengths and leave hair to dry naturally if hair is naturally straight or slightly wavy. If hair is slightly curly to very curly, blow-dry hair with fingers after applying fashion waves 07 sea salt spray to loosen the curl.
  3. Take top section of hair and comb straight-back with a fine-tooth comb so the hair on either side of the head is covering the ears. Secure with two bobby bins.
  4. Spray hair all-over with forceful 23 super strength finishing spray to hold hair in place and add an overall lacquered look.
  5. Finish with a touch of shine flash 02 glistening mist all-over for added shine.

Backstage At Hermès PFW SS 2015 With Redken

In keeping with the statement of luxury that Hermès is known for, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created an elevated blow-out for the designer’s Spring/Summer 2015 show in Paris. “The Hermès look calls for a super-rich blow-out, a look we haven’t talked much about this fashion season. To achieve this voluminous hair, I applied guts 10 to damp hair and used a round brush to pull it away from the face. Once the hair dried, I ran my fingers through it to create this very easy, luxurious look,” Guido.

Redken Products Used: Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer, guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam

How To Create The Look:
  1. Apply Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer and guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam to damp hair.
  2. Blow-dry hair section by section using a round brush.
  3. Clip hair into pin curls. Remove clips just before wearing for voluminous style.

Backstage At Valentino PFW SS 2015 With Guido Palau

Evoking the idea of a carefree girl being in the sun for the first time, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a soft beach look for Valentino’s Spring/Summer 2015 show in Paris. “Valentino has a way of conjuring up what women want and this look is about this girl in the sun and in the sea, emphasizing the femininity of the classic Valentino girl. We have this very soft, wavy style and a beautiful tiara in the back of the hair with gold shells to conjure up the spirit of the summer. I used fashion waves 07 to create the waves and then used an iron to add additional movement. The wind blown 05 makes the waves look a little bit deconstructed and imperfect. This beautiful gold tiara, with the gold being the Valentino signature look, is placed in the back with the hair wrapped around the band to cover it and really emphasize the shell adornments,” Guido.

Redken Products Used: Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer, fashion waves 07 sea salt spray, wind blown 05 dry finishing spray

How To Create The Look:
  1. Apply Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer to damp hair, layering with fashion waves 07 sea salt spray.
  2. Create a center part and blow-dry hair with hands, twisting hair section by section to create movement.
  3. Curl hair section by section using a 1-inch curling iron.
  4. Loosen the curls with fingers and spray hair once again with fashion waves 07 sea salt spray, layering with wind blown 05 dry finishing spray to provide added texture.
  5. Apply gold headband to back of head, taking hair and wrapping around the gold headband in-between the shell adornments to hide the band. Secure with open fasteners.

Redken Recap Alexander McQueen PFW SS 2015

Melding futurism and classicism into one, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a Japanese-inspired look for Alexander McQueen’sSpring/Summer 2015 show in Paris.

“With McQueen, it is always about the yin and the yang – the push and the pull. The hair here is reminiscent of the hair in Japanese sumo, a bold Asian-inspired style that, when paired with the mask, becomes very futuristic. When working with Sarah [Burton], there’s always this combination of avant-garde and classicism that she ignites. I wanted the hair to feel almost traditional, but the wet hair look allowed it to become more modern – it is a balance of the two. The hair is saturated with hardwear 16 super strong hair gel which is combed through. The goal was to have the hair flattened so it creates this shape so I used a card to help fold the hair like pastry and pin it up, keeping it in place with forceful 23 super strength finishing spray,” Guido.

Redken Products Used: hardwear 16 super strong hair gel, forceful 23 super strength finishing spray

How To Create The Look:

  1. Start with dry hair. Saturate hair section by section with hardwear 16 super strong hair gel.
  2. Comb hair straight back with a fine-tooth comb.
  3. Gather hair and roll from the bottom up into a rectangular shape. Pin hair into place.
  4. Finish with forceful 23 super strength finishing spray to hold hair in place.

Sacai PFW Spring/Summer 2015 Redken Recap

At Sacai’s Spring/Summer 2015 show in Paris, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a boyish, youthful style using the indentation of a ponytail holder to add texture to an otherwise natural look. “I created a messy side part using my fingers to create a look that is a little bit boyish, using wind blown 05 to add texture to the hair. After letting it air-dry, I pulled the hair into a ponytail and let it set for about 30 minutes before removing the elastic, creating an interesting aspect to the hair’s natural texture. I let soft bits fall on the face to create a nice charm and pulled the hair back behind the ears to finish the youthful look,” Guido.

Redken Products Used: Diamond Oil Shampoo, Diamond Oil Conditioner, wind blown 05 dry finishing spray

How To Create The Look:

  1. Wash hair with Diamond Oil Shampoo and Conditioner, comb and let air-dry.
  2. Create a messy side-part using fingers.
  3. Apply wind blown 05 dry finishing spray for added texture.
  4. Gather hair into a low ponytail and secure with elastic. Wait about 20-30 minutes, then remove elastic.
  5. Finish with another spray of wind blown 05 dry finishing spray. Tuck hair behind ears.

Nina Ricci Spring/Summer 2015 PFW Redken’s Get The Look

In keeping with the Parisian surroundings, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a delicate French chignon for Nina Ricci’s Spring/Summer 2015 show in Paris. Guido used Redken’s satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion before blow-drying the hair smooth and pulling it into a low ponytail. He applied a hairnet to the ponytail and twisted it into a low chignon. To add an undone feel to the classic Frenchwoman style, Guido curled two front pieces of hair, left out on either side, before spraying the hair with quick dry 18 instant finishing spray to add texture.

For Nina Ricci, we wanted a very sophisticated French look. We applied satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to the hair to make it super smooth before blow-drying it and creating a center part. We pulled the hair into a really low knot and covered it with a net, leaving it so that you can see the net, which feels very French. We pulled the hairline out and then used a curling iron to create a little bit of movement so that the final look is one that is very soft, feminine and sensual. Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used: Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer, satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion, quick dry 18 instant finishing spray

How To Create The Look:
  1. Thoroughly mist Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer all over damp hair and comb through.
  2. Layer with a nickel-size amount of satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion throughout damp hair and blow-dry smooth with a natural bristle round brush.
  3. Create a clean center part with fingers.
  4. Gather hair into a low ponytail, pulling out two small pieces on either side. Secure ponytail with an elastic.
  5. Cover the ponytail with a small hairnet. Twist the ponytail into a low, flat chignon and secure with open fasteners.
  6. Slightly curl the two front pieces with a 1-inch curling iron.
  7. Finish with a light spray of quick dry 18 instant finishing spray all over hair to add airy texture with a bit of shine.

MFW SS 2015 Redken Roundup Dolce & Gabbana, Jil Sander, Roberto Cavalli

MFW SS 2015 Redken Roundup

Show: Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2015

Inspired by the modern-day Spanish woman, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a feminine, soft updo that captured the essence of the classic Dolce & Gabbana woman for their Spring/Summer 2015 show in Milan. Using Redken’s new wind blown 05 dry finishing spray to add airy texture to the hair before pulling it back into a loose bun with an effortless feeling. To finish the look, Guido adorned each model’s hair with rich floral arrangements and jewel-encrusted crowns, which have become a signature runway style look for Dolce & Gabbana.

“This look is very classically Dolce. It’s very soft, pretty and feminine – how girls want to look. I created these soft chignons with a Spanish feeling by using Redken’s wind blown 05 to create texture throughout the hair, and then pulled the hair back over the ears into a low, loose, sort of messy bun. It could look severe, but I’m doing it with my fingers to make it much softer for an overall feeling that’s very rich and luxurious.” Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used: Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer, satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion, wind blown 05 dry finishing spray

How To Create The Look:
  1. Thoroughly mist Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer all over damp hair and comb through.
  2. Apply a nicked-size amount of satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion throughout damp hair and blow-dry smooth with a round brush.

  5. Pull hair over the ears and back into a loose bun.

  7. Finish with another mist of wind blown 05 dry finishing spray.

  Show: Jil Sander Spring/Summer 2015

Redken Creative Consultant Guido captured the essence of the Jil Sander girl by creating a modern, androgynous hairstyle for the runway at the Spring/Summer 2015 show in Milan. To achieve this minimal, natural look, Guido used Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer and satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to create beautiful texture throughout the hair before blow-drying and adding his finishing touches.

“The Jil Sander girl is always sort of masculine-feminine and very boyish. This simple, modern hairstyle really captures the essence of that girl. I used Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer and satinwear 02 all over the hair to get that natural, beautiful texture. Then I blow-dried the hair, using my fingers to create a deep side part and tucked the hair behind the ears for a very masculine, boyish feeling.” Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

  4. Tuck the hair behind the ears to achieve a natural finish.

    Show: Roberto Cavalli Spring/Summer 2015

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created rich, natural hairstyle for Roberto Cavalli’s Spring/Summer 2015 show in Milan. To achieve this fresh-from-the-salon look, Guido used Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer and satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to blow-dry the hair smooth, but leaving the length natural for a rich, luxurious finish.

“It’s a very simple, minimal hairstyle at Cavalli this season, with a very rich feeling, almost like the girls just stepped out of the salon. I used satinwear 02 to blow-dry the hair smooth and then created a sort-of messy middle party with my fingers. After creating the part, I didn’t touch the hair again, so it feels very natural and luxurious with a little bit of sexiness.” Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Versace MFW Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear Redken Get The Look

Drawing inspiration from the 1980’s, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a sporty-chic hairstyle for Versace’s Spring/Summer 2015 show in Milan. Using guts 10 volumizing spray-foam mousse to create height in the front and forceful 23 super strength finishing spray for the perfect amount of control and shine, Guido achieved a minimal hairstyle that made a massive statement on the runway.

“The Versace girl is a bit sporty this season, but still very modern and glamorous. I created this minimal and very natural hairstyle to enhance this feeling. I created volume in the front with guts 10, and left the back natural to get that beautiful, modern texture. Then I raked my fingers back through the hair, using forceful 23 to create those distinct lines and hold for a boyish, sporty vibe that’s still quite glamorous with the height in the front and shiny finish.” - Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Prada MFW Spring/Summer 2015 Recap With Redken

It’s often the little things that make a big difference, and Redken Creative Consultant Guido proved this to be true with the hairstyle he created for Prada’s Spring/Summer 2015 show in Milan. Guido achieved this tough, yet sophisticated, low ponytail by using a combination of Redken’s mess around 10 disrupting cream-paste and Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist to add small details that made a bold statement on the runway.

“I cut bangs around the face of each of the girls to lend a boyish-ness to the hairstyle. This greasy, kind of tough-looking ponytail is really an indication of who the woman is. She’s very pulled together and sophisticated, but has a bit of a dark, eccentric edge. I used mess around 10 to get that rough texture, and then tucked the girls’ hair behind the ears so it has more of a boyish feeling. Then, I added some richness by spraying Diamond Oil High Shine on the top of the hair, and finished the look by pulling out baby hairs around the hairline and misting them with water so they stick to the face. It’s these tiny details that give a hairstyle a big impact.” Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used: mess around 10 disrupting cream-paste, Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist (launching in November)

Get The Look:
  1. If working with curly hair, rough blow-dry until 100% dry.
  2. Apply mess around 10 disrupting cream-paste to dry hair section-by-section from roots to mid-shaft (do not apply product to the ends).
  3. Gather hair into a rough low ponytail, securing at the nape of the neck with an elastic.
  4. Spray Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist from roots to the mid-shaft without spraying on the ponytail to keep it natural.
  5. Pull out the baby hairs around the face and spray with a light mist of water, allowing them to stick to the face.

Show: Alberta Ferretti Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear

Redken Creative Consultant Guido played up Alberta Ferretti’s Spring Ready-to-Wear #MFW 2015 Collection with a natural, hippy-inspired hairstyle for the runway. “At this moment in time, easy hair feels the most modern, and that’s the overall feeling we get with this hairstyle. The Alberta Ferretti girl is kind of a hippie, but still very feminine and soft, so I left the hair a bit natural, with some nice chunky texture and loose curls. I sprayed fashion waves 07 throughout the hair, and then used two different sized curling irons to add more movement. Then, I applied more fashion waves 07 to pull out the curls a bit, creating that nice matte texture.” - Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used:
  • Diamond Oil Shampoo
  • Diamond Oil Conditioner
  • fashion waves 07 sea salt spray

Create The Look:
  1. Start with clean hair by washing with Diamond Oil Shampoo and Conditioner.
  2. Rough blow-dry, and then create a messy center part using fingers.
  3. Use a round brush to blow-dry the front of the hair until smooth.
  4. Spray fashion waves 07 sea salt spray throughout the hair to create some texture.
  5. Create additional movement by loosely wrapping underside pieces of hair around a ½-inch curling iron and face-framing pieces around a 1-inch curling iron.
  6. Apply another mist of fashion waves 07 sea salt spray throughout the hair to pull out some of the curl.

Redken #NYFW Roundup Hair by Guido: Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren

Guido, Redken Creative Consultant, styles hair for more than 80 fashion shows every year in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. He fuels trend-setting hairstyles around the globe every season and is the creative force behind fashion's most iconic hairstyles. For TME Readers, we’ve got the “Get The Look” for NYFW most iconic designers!

Show: Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2015

For the fourth season in a row, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created 60 custom wigs for the highly-anticipated Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2015 NYFW show. Working very closely with Marc Jacobs to complete his vision for the runway, Guido drew inspiration from the 70’s and 80’s to create a fantasy on the runway.

“The wigs we created are a total reflection of Marc Jacob’s style. He has a complete vision for his show, and the wigs really allowed us to bring this vision to life because they almost depersonalize the girls. We were inspired by the 70’s and 80’s and by Joey Ramone’s bowlish haircut. First, we dyed all of the wigs black and then we pre-cut them before the show so that we could custom cut them for each girl backstage to create that perfect bowl-shape with the heavy bang. Texture is also very important for this look.” - Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used: wind blown 05 dry finishing spray, fashion waves 07 sea salt spray, hardwear 16 super strong sculpting gel, and control addict 28 high hold hairspray

Create the Look - Marc Jacobs:
  1. Apply hardwear 16 super strong sculpting gel to dry hair from root to ends and comb through until hair is completely saturated.
  2. Divide hair into two sections (top and bottom) in the back.
  3. Clip the bottom section down and out of the way.
  4. Using a finishing brush, start to brush the top section flat against the head, following the round of the head in one direction. Repeat with each section, making sure it’s very clean and neat-looking when finished.
  5. Blow dry hair until completely dry.
  6. Apply control addict 28 high hold hairspray to smooth any flyaways.
  7. Place wig on head.
  8. Cut the wig into a bowl-shape with a heavy bang.
  9. Mist water all over the wig until damp, and then liberally spray fashion waves 07 sea salt spray all over, scrunching into hair with fingers to create chunky texture.
  10. Allow to air dry and finish by thoroughly spraying wind blown 05 dry finishing spray all over the hair for added texture.

Show: Calvin Klein Spring/Summer 2015

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a chic, Japanese-inspired chignon for Calvin Klein’s Spring/Summer 2015 NYFW show, adding a bit of toughness to the designer’s classic collection.

“The look at Calvin Klein is always very minimal and classic. This season the girl is still quite classic, but with a tough, sexy edge, which was inspired by the Japanese or chinoiserie kind of look. I simply pulled the hair back very tight with my fingers to create a high ponytail, and then twisted the hair into a chignon that’s a bit messy with little wispy hairs popping out of the bun.” - Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used: forceful 23 super strength hairspray, Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist (available in November)

Create the Look - Calvin Klein:
  1. Liberally spray forceful 23 super strength hairspray and Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist throughout the hair, using fingers to work into the roots for texture and grip.
  2. Pull hair back into a tight, high ponytail with fingers, securing with an elastic.
  3. Twist the length of the ponytail into a tight chignon, fastening with small U-pins and allowing a few wispy strands of hair to stick out from the bun.
  4. Finish with another mist of forceful 23 super strength hairspray and Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist all over for added texture and shine.

Show: Ralph LaurenSpring/Summer 2015

Redken Creative Consultant Guido brought modern luxury to the Ralph Lauren runway once again, creating two classic, minimal looks to complement the designer’s collection. Guido created an elegant low ponytail and a beautiful, smooth blowout to bring to life the timeless, traditional lifestyle of Ralph Lauren.

“Ralph Lauren continues to tell the story of easy luxury on the runway. The hair is all about this beautiful, rich texture. Some of the girls have their hair back in an elegant, low ponytail, and some have their hair down, which is a nod to Ralph’s commitment to stay true to his brand rather than following the latest trends. These styles with rich, natural textures achieve a very classic, finished and modern feeling.” - Guido, Redken Creative Consultant
