Soo Joo Park Announced As New Brand Muse Redken

Redken has announced its newest brand muse … model and trendsetter Soo Joo Park! Known for her hair transformations and sartorial street style, Soo Joo is a favorite of top fashion designers and magazines. She has redefined the meaning of a modern-day model thanks to her animated personality and candid use of social media.

Soo Joo joins an elite collective of Redken muses and trend creators, including musician Sky Ferreira, international fashion blogger Chiara Ferragni, model Lea T, renowned hairstylist and fashion industry legend Guido and celebrity haircolorist Tracey Cunningham.

“I’ve gone through a lot of changes with my hair,” says Soo Joo. “Hair is the ultimate self-expression and I love how it can really transform my look and show my style. I’m so excited to be chosen as a Redken muse and can’t wait to share my hair journey with other people.”

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Soo Joo Park’s family relocated to Southern California when she was 10. While studying at the University of California at Berkeley, Soo Joo was spotted at a San Francisco Bay Area thrift store, and then she quickly moved to New York City to begin modeling. At the suggestion of her agent, she colored her hair a career-transforming platinum blonde. Soo Joo has starred in campaigns for Chanel, Tom Ford and DKNY, walked the runway for countless designers, and graced the covers of a myriad of magazines including Harper’s Bazaar, V, Interview, Vogue Korea, Vogue Japan, and many more.

Top Holiday Hair Tips From Celebrity Colorist Tracey Cunningham

Everyone wants to look and feel their best during the holiday season, radiant hair included. Unfortunately with our social calendars filled to the brim from Thanksgiving into the New Year, it can be challenging to find the time to care for and maintain your haircolor. To help guide your haircare regimen this season, Redken Celebrity Colorist Tracey Cunninghamshares her top tips for making the most of your time at the salon during the holidays.

Forward thinking: I typically advise my clients to wait six to eight weeks for gray touch-ups and eight to 12 weeks for highlights. With this in mind and knowing that salons get incredibly busy around the holidays, schedule your holiday color appointment with as much advance notice as possible. If you are going in for "corrective color”, to correct color results you are unhappy with from a prior coloring experience, be prepared for a longer visit as your colorist may need to remove old color and then recolor your hair.
Show, don’t tell: If you plan to try out a new look for the holidays, whether bold or subtle, bringing photographs and examples of haircolor you love will help you and your colorist explore your color options and ensure that you both mean the same thing when you say “honey blonde” or “scarlet red.” One technique I’ve been using a lot recently is a Metallic Blur haircolor – a combination of luxe bronze and gold tones that are softened together using Redken's new Blur technique. The end result is a natural shimmering finish that is perfect for those holiday pictures and parties!

Miu Miu PFW Spring/Summer 2015 Backstage With Redken Get The Look

Achieving a messy, rebellious look for Miu Miu’sSpring/Summer 2015 show in Paris, Redken Creative Consultant Guido used several texturizing and shine-inducing Redken products to achieve a wet style. “The hair is a classic shape, almost like a Catherine Deneuve style, but with this very modern texture. We opened up the face by pulling the hair off of it and adding a texturized sheen to the hair. I used fashion waves 07 sea salt spray as the main product to pull the hair back and then clipped the hair in so that the ears stick out, creating this rebellious feeling. I finished by heavily spraying the hair in forceful 23 super strength finishing spray to make it look a little bit wet,” Guido.

How To Create The Look:

Wash hair with Diamond Oil High Shine Shampoo and Conditioner.
Spray fashion waves 07 sea salt spray all-over hair lengths and leave hair to dry naturally if hair is naturally straight or slightly wavy. If hair is slightly curly to very curly, blow-dry hair with fingers after applying fashion waves 07 sea salt spray to loosen the curl.
Take top section of hair and comb straight-back with a fine-tooth comb so the hair on either side of the head is covering the ears. Secure with two bobby bins.
Spray hair all-over with forceful 23 super strength finishing spray to hold hair in place and add an overall lacquered look.
Finish with a touch of shine flash 02 glistening mist all-over for added shine.

Nina Ricci Spring/Summer 2015 PFW Redken’s Get The Look

In keeping with the Parisian surroundings, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a delicate French chignon for Nina Ricci’s Spring/Summer 2015 show in Paris. Guido used Redken’s satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion before blow-drying the hair smooth and pulling it into a low ponytail. He applied a hairnet to the ponytail and twisted it into a low chignon. To add an undone feel to the classic Frenchwoman style, Guido curled two front pieces of hair, left out on either side, before spraying the hair with quick dry 18 instant finishing spray to add texture.

For Nina Ricci, we wanted a very sophisticated French look. We applied satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to the hair to make it super smooth before blow-drying it and creating a center part. We pulled the hair into a really low knot and covered it with a net, leaving it so that you can see the net, which feels very French. We pulled the hairline out and then used a curling iron to create a little bit of movement so that the final look is one that is very soft, feminine and sensual. Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

How To Create The Look:

Thoroughly mist Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer all over damp hair and comb through.
Layer with a nickel-size amount of satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion throughout damp hair and blow-dry smooth with a natural bristle round brush.
Create a clean center part with fingers.
Gather hair into a low ponytail, pulling out two small pieces on either side. Secure ponytail with an elastic.
Cover the ponytail with a small hairnet. Twist the ponytail into a low, flat chignon and secure with open fasteners.
Slightly curl the two front pieces with a 1-inch curling iron.
Finish with a light spray of quick dry 18 instant finishing spray all over hair to add airy texture with a bit of shine.

Balenciaga Spring/Summer 2015 PFW Get The Look

For his first Spring/Summer 2015 show in Paris, RedkenCreative Consultant Guido created a futuristic hairstyle to highlight Balenciaga’s collection and mod hair accessory – sunglasses with a satin-embroidered hairpiece. To create the minimal look, Guido used Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer and satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to achieve a high-shine, straight look. For added sleekness, Guido used iron shape 11 thermal protecting spray and quick dry 18 instant finishing spray. To finish, Guido adorned the hair with Balenciaga’s racing sunglasses, each accented with contrasting, luxurious hand-embroidered jewelry, some of which were pulled from the Balenciaga archives.

“We wanted to focus on the futuristic theme of the collection and showcase the sporty sunglasses accessory and its hints of prestige, so we are doing hair that is down, center-parted and perfectly straight to create this blunt, minimal effect. Adding to the rich elegance of Bottega Veneta’s Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear show in Milan, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a feminine, casual updo that any woman can achieve on her own. Using Redken’s new wind blown 05 to add soft, natural texture and mess around 10 disrupting cream-paste to twist the hair back, Guido created a rich, ready-to-wear hairstyle that stunned on the runway.

“I created this very feminine, beautiful updo that’s very Bottega Veneta. It’s how every woman would like their hair to look, and feel comfortable enough to wear it like that. I started with clean, dry hair, and then used my main product, wind blown 05, which was really key to getting that great texture you can see. Then, I twisted the hair back and used little pins to hold it in place, but left a long bit sticking out so that it felt very casual. I finished the look by pulling out the little baby hairs all around the hairline, so the overall effect was very soft and feminine with a lot richness.” Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

How To Create The Look:

Start with dry hair, and blow-dry hair straight back.
Spray wind blown 05 dry finishing spray all over hair to add airy texture.
Emulsify a dime-size amount of mess around 10 disrupting cream-paste in hands, and apply only to the hairline and top of head. Comb through using fingers.
Twist hair back into a very loose knot, securing with small U-pins.
Pull out a few wispy hairs around the hairline and finish with another mist of wind blown 05 dry finishing spray.

Show: Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2015

Inspired by the modern-day Spanish woman, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a feminine, soft updo that captured the essence of the classic Dolce & Gabbana woman for their Spring/Summer 2015 show in Milan. Using Redken’s new wind blown 05 dry finishing spray to add airy texture to the hair before pulling it back into a loose bun with an effortless feeling. To finish the look, Guido adorned each model’s hair with rich floral arrangements and jewel-encrusted crowns, which have become a signature runway style look for Dolce & Gabbana.

“This look is very classically Dolce. It’s very soft, pretty and feminine – how girls want to look. I created these soft chignons with a Spanish feeling by using Redken’s wind blown 05 to create texture throughout the hair, and then pulled the hair back over the ears into a low, loose, sort of messy bun. Redken Creative Consultant Guido captured the essence of the Jil Sander girl by creating a modern, androgynous hairstyle for the runway at the Spring/Summer 2015 show in Milan. “The Jil Sander girl is always sort of masculine-feminine and very boyish. This simple, modern hairstyle really captures the essence of that girl. Drawing inspiration from the 1980’s, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a sporty-chic hairstyle for Versace’s Spring/Summer 2015 show in Milan. Using guts 10 volumizing spray-foam mousse to create height in the front and forceful 23 super strength finishing spray for the perfect amount of control and shine, Guido achieved a minimal hairstyle that made a massive statement on the runway.

“The Versace girl is a bit sporty this season, but still very modern and glamorous. I created this minimal and very natural hairstyle to enhance this feeling. I created volume in the front with guts 10, and left the back natural to get that beautiful, modern texture. Then I raked my fingers back through the hair, using forceful 23 to create those distinct lines and hold for a boyish, sporty vibe that’s still quite glamorous with the height in the front and shiny finish.” - Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

How To Create The Look:

Thoroughly mist Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer all over hair and comb through.
While hair is still damp, apply guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam on roots at the crown.
Blow-dry hair at the crown until it is completely dry.
Spray the back of the hair with water and let dry naturally.
Rake hair back with fingers to create visible lines and spray with forceful 23 super strength finishing spray to hold hair in place.
Finish with a touch of shine flash 02 glistening mist all over for added shine.

Show: Alberta Ferretti Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear

Redken Creative Consultant Guido played up Alberta Ferretti’s Spring Ready-to-Wear #MFW 2015 Collection with a natural, hippy-inspired hairstyle for the runway. “At this moment in time, easy hair feels the most modern, and that’s the overall feeling we get with this hairstyle. The Alberta Ferretti girl is kind of a hippie, but still very feminine and soft, so I left the hair a bit natural, with some nice chunky texture and loose curls. I sprayed fashion waves 07 throughout the hair, and then used two different sized curling irons to add more movement. Then, I applied more fashion waves 07 to pull out the curls a bit, creating that nice matte texture.” - Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Create The Look:

Start with clean hair by washing with Diamond Oil Shampoo and Conditioner.
Rough blow-dry, and then create a messy center part using fingers.

Spray fashion waves 07 sea salt spray throughout the hair to create some texture.
Create additional movement by loosely wrapping underside pieces of hair around a ½-inch curling iron and face-framing pieces around a 1-inch curling iron.
Apply another mist of fashion waves 07 sea salt spray throughout the hair to pull out some of the curl.

But, even the easy looks have little nuances that make it feel special - the way the part is very natural and a little messy, or the little wispy hairs around the face. Show: Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2015

For the fourth season in a row, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created 60 custom wigs for the highly-anticipated Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2015 NYFW show. Working very closely with Marc Jacobs to complete his vision for the runway, Guido drew inspiration from the 70’s and 80’s to create a fantasy on the runway.

“The wigs we created are a total reflection of Marc Jacob’s style. He has a complete vision for his show, and the wigs really allowed us to bring this vision to life because they almost depersonalize the girls. We were inspired by the 70’s and 80’s and by Joey Ramone’s bowlish haircut. First, we dyed all of the wigs black and then we pre-cut them before the show so that we could custom cut them for each girl backstage to create that perfect bowl-shape with the heavy bang. Redken Products Used: wind blown 05 dry finishing spray, fashion waves 07 sea salt spray, hardwear 16 super strong sculpting gel, and control addict 28 high hold hairspray

Create the Look - Marc Jacobs:

Apply hardwear 16 super strong sculpting gel to dry hair from root to ends and comb through until hair is completely saturated.
Divide hair into two sections (top and bottom) in the back.
Clip the bottom section down and out of the way.
Using a finishing brush, start to brush the top section flat against the head, following the round of the head in one direction. Repeat with each section, making sure it’s very clean and neat-looking when finished.
Blow dry hair until completely dry.
Apply control addict 28 high hold hairspray to smooth any flyaways.
Place wig on head.
Cut the wig into a bowl-shape with a heavy bang.
Mist water all over the wig until damp, and then liberally spray fashion waves 07 sea salt spray all over, scrunching into hair with fingers to create chunky texture.
Allow to air dry and finish by thoroughly spraying wind blown 05 dry finishing spray all over the hair for added texture.

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a chic, Japanese-inspired chignon for Calvin Klein’s Spring/Summer 2015 NYFW show, adding a bit of toughness to the designer’s classic collection.

“The look at Calvin Klein is always very minimal and classic. This season the girl is still quite classic, but with a tough, sexy edge, which was inspired by the Japanese or chinoiserie kind of look. I simply pulled the hair back very tight with my fingers to create a high ponytail, and then twisted the hair into a chignon that’s a bit messy with little wispy hairs popping out of the bun.” - Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used: forceful 23 super strength hairspray, Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist (available in November)

Create the Look - Calvin Klein:

Liberally spray forceful 23 super strength hairspray and Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist throughout the hair, using fingers to work into the roots for texture and grip.
Pull hair back into a tight, high ponytail with fingers, securing with an elastic.
Twist the length of the ponytail into a tight chignon, fastening with small U-pins and allowing a few wispy strands of hair to stick out from the bun.
Finish with another mist of forceful 23 super strength hairspray and Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist all over for added texture and shine.

Guido created an elegant low ponytail and a beautiful, smooth blowout to bring to life the timeless, traditional lifestyle of Ralph Lauren.

Redken Products Used: satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion, fashion work 12 versatile hairspray, pillow proof blowdry express primer, pillow proof blowdry two day extender

Create the Look – Ralph Lauren Elegant Low Ponytail:

Apply a nickel-sized amount of satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion throughout damp hair.
Create a side part and then blow-dry hair smooth using a round brush for added volume.
Brush hair into a low ponytail, securing at the base of the head with a small elastic.
Take a small section of hair from the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic, securing with a small pin.
Finish with a mist of fashion work 12 versatile hairspray for a clean, polished look.

Create the Look – Ralph Lauren Relaxed Blowout:

Shampoo and condition the hair with Redken Clear Moisture shampoo and conditioner
Apply pillow proof blowdry express primer 2 damp hair
Allow hair to dry naturally
Use a curling iron to add movement into the mid-lengths and ends if necessary
Spray pillow proof blowdry two day extender on mid-lengths and ends for added texture
